Midco Waste Transfer Station
You can think of transfer stations as a form of carpooling for garbage. Your local waste collection truck is emptied at a centralized point, where it is combined with the trash collected from other routes, compacted, and loaded into larger trailers for transportation to a landfill. Nationwide, Republic Services has more than 240 strategically located transfer stations which allow us to efficiently transport larger volumes with fewer trucks. This extensive network means we use less fuel, minimize wear and tear on roads, and lower overall truck emissions, allowing us to better protect the environment while increasing service efficiency.
Midco Waste Systems operates two transfer stations in Middlesex County. Our South Plainfield transfer station is reserved for Republic Services trucks, but our New Brunswick transfer station is available to Middlesex and Somerset County residents, as well as any NJDEP licensed haulers. New Jersey law limits how homeowners can bring trash to a transfer station or landfill. You can only use your own vehicle, registered to the address where the debris is coming from, and the maximum gross vehicle weight is 9,000 pounds. If you are using a trailer, the combined maximum gross weight is 16,000 pounds. Rental vehicles are never allowed in the transfer station.
In order to set up an account to bring materials to our transfer station, just stop by our New Brunswick office or call (732) 545-8988 to have an application faxed to you. We will need a copy of your vehicle registration, insurance, and either your driver’s license if you are registering as a homeowner, or your DEP registration card if you are registering as a waste hauler. Once everything is completed, the process of uploading your account will take about an hour, and then you will be allowed to weigh in.
