Recycling Today for a Better Tomorrow: A Midco Waste Philosophy
Today, more than ever, people understand the need to responsibly manage waste. For a growing percentage of the population, this means looking for more opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle. Individuals in communities that we serve can recycle in a number of ways. In some cases, we offer recycling drop-off locations. In others, curbside home collection is available. Businesses can also find out about our available commercial recycling capabilities whether they have one location or hundreds. Call us at (732) 545-8988, or click here to send us a message.

Midco Waste Recycling--Materials Recovery Facilities
Republic is one of America’s largest recyclers. We have 78 materials recovery facilities and other recycling operations. These facilities sort recyclable paper, cardboard, aluminum, glass and other materials.

Most of these recyclable materials are internally collected by our residential collection operations. In some areas, we receive commercial and industrial solid waste that is sorted at our facilities into recyclable materials and non-recyclable waste. The recyclable materials are salvaged, repackaged and shipped to third parties, and the non-recyclable waste is disposed of.

Republic Services recycles approximately 3.3 million tons of materials annually. That’s equal to more than 200 pounds per second. Recycling the paper products alone is equivalent to saving 41 million trees.

Attention Residents of South Plainfield:
Important Updates to the Boroughs Recycling Collection:
Effective April 1 2010, the Borough has contracted with Midco Waste Systems to begin collection services for curbside recycling.

What will change:

  1. Starting Monday, April 5th your recycling pickup day will change.
  2. All residents will receive a brochure in the mail that will detail the new collection schedule. Please take note of your new collection day and the effective date of your first collection.
  3. You no longer need to sort your recycling into separate containers. All recyclable materials (paper, plastic, metal) will be collected together. You may set out an unlimited number of containers, as long as each container is no larger than 32-gallons. You can continue to use the current containers that were supplied through the Township.

Benefits of the new recycling collection program:

  1. Single-stream collection, making it easier for each resident to participate in the recycling program.
  2. Reduction in cost to the borough versus the Middlesex County plan.

The new recycling districts and service days can be found here.

Midco has been working closely with the Borough Council and Recycling Coordinator to minimize the transition. Although every effort is being made to make this as seamless as possible, we realize that this is new and may be confusing to some residents. We appreciate your understanding and patience during the initial start up of service.

Thank you!
